Indian arrivals jump 10% in October

International visitor arrivals to India continued to show double-digit growth in October 2016.
According to the latest data from the Indian Ministry of Tourism, the country welcomed a total of 754,000 international visitors last month, up 10.4% compared to October 2015.
Bangladesh was India’s largest visitor source market, accounting for 16.7% of total arrivals, followed by the US (12.8%), UK (11.0%), Canada (3.7%) and Australia (3.5%). Sri Lanka (3.5%), Germany (3.4%), Russia (3.2%), France (2.9%) and China (2.7%) completed the top 10.
More than a third (34.1%) of visitors arrived through Delhi Airport, followed by Mumbai Airport (15.7%) and the Haridaspur land border post (9.2%), which links India with Bangladesh.
India generated INR123.03 billion (approx. US$1.84bn) in tourism revenues in October 2016, up 16.6% year-on-year.
For the first 10 months of the year, India has now welcomed 6.96 million international visitors and generated revenues of INR1.24 trillion (approx. US$18.53bn), marking year-on-year growth of 10.5% and 14.7% respectively.
