IndiGo will expand its operations at Chennai next month with the launch of a new international route.

On 15 December 2016, the low-cost carrier will commence daily flights between the southern Indian city and Muscat, the capital of Oman.

This will become IndiGo’s third international destination from Chennai, following existing flights to Dubai and Singapore. It is also the airline’s third route to Muscat, joining its services from Mumbai and Kochi, and its 16th daily service to the Gulf region.

IndiGo’s president, Aditya Ghosh, said the new route was “an indication of the strong demand on this sector”.

“Expanding operations on these routes are in line with our growth strategy outlined for Oman. IndiGo has established itself as a prestigious brand… and we are confident that this daily service would also prove equally popular with our flyers,” he commented.

Oman Air and Air India both currently operate the Chennai-Muscat route.
