Las Vegas‘ tourism industry reached a milestone in 2014, exceeding 40 million annual visitors for the first time.
The Nevada gaming hub has recorded 10 consecutive months of year-on-year growth in terms of visitor numbers, with many of those months being the best on record.
The city now expects to welcome approximately 41m visitors for the full-year 2014, exceeding the previous annual record of 39.7m, which was set in 2012.
The growth has been driven by an increase in direct air services connecting Las Vegas with Canada and Mexico, although numbers have also been up from the UK market as Caroline Coyle, vice president brand strategy at Las Vegas CVA told Travel Daily.
It was announced this week that Mariah Carey will take up residence at Caesars Palace for a series of concerts.
Tourism numbers are expected to continue an upward trend in 2015 with airlines including Virgin Atlantic and Thomas Cook increasing flights to the city.
Below is the city’s year in some more unusual numbers.
