InterContinental has become the first hotel brand in the US to have all its hotel restaurants certified by the Green Restaurant Association (GRA).
In September 2011, the InterContinental Boston’s Miel Brasserie Provençale was the first of the hotel chain’s restaurants to receive the certification, and InterCon then made the decision to require all of its managed restaurants to meet the GRA’s environmental standards. And last week the brand achieved this goal.
“We are proud to be the first hotel company in the world to have all of our managed restaurants under one brand meeting the two- and three-star Certified Green Restaurant standard,” said Jean-Pierre Etcheberrigaray, IHG’s vice president of F&B for the Americas. “In 2011, we set out to achieve this goal, and we are thrilled to have exceeded it.”
Collectively, the 26 restaurants at InterCon properties in the US and Canada implemented 1,180 environmental initiatives in the areas of energy, water, waste, food, packaging, chemicals, and building materials. These ranged from recycling organic waste and conserving energy to providing electric vehicle charging stations for diners.
