The InterContinental Hong Kong is about to embark on a major renovation project.
IHG revealed this week that the habourfront hotel will close its doors from the first quarter of 2019, for a complete interior and exterior overhaul that is expected to take between 12 and 16 months to complete. The project will encompass all 503 rooms and suites, including bathrooms, plus all public areas, restaurants and event venues, as well as a redesign of the building’s façade.
IHG said that the “spectacular transformation” would position InterContinental Hong Kong as “one of the world’s most iconic hotels”.
While the hotel’s rooms will remain closed during the renovation, its restaurants and event space is expected to reopen in the evenings from late summer 2019. The two Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant, Yan Toh Heen, will remain open throughout.

Tokyo-based Curiosity Inc has been tasked with the redesign of the hotel’s lobby and guest rooms, including the 650m² presidential suite which features a rooftop terrace and pool.
As well as Yan Toh Heen, the hotel is also home to Nobu and Alain Ducasse restaurants, plus a steakhouse and harbourfront restaurant. Other facilities include a spa, swimming pools overlooking the harbour, a 24-hour fitness centre, 11 function rooms and a ballroom.
InterContinental Hong Kong first opened in 1980 as The Regent Hong Kong, but has operated under the luxury InterContinental brand since 2001.
