InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has rebranded and relaunched one of Australia’s most famous hotels.

Since opening in 1991, the former Ritz-Carlton hotel at Double Bay has hosted A-list celebrities including Elton John, Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise and Madonna, plus American presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton. It was also the hotel where former INXS front man Michael Hutchence was found dead in 1997.

The property closed in 2009 but was later acquired by Royal Hotels Australia. And having undergone a multi-million dollar refurbishment, this Australian icon has re-emerged as the InterContinental Sydney Double Bay.

“The opening of InterContinental Sydney Double Bay marks an important time for IHG not only in Australia, but in the wider region, and globally. We are thrilled to have partnered with Royal Hotels in the development of this exceptional hotel, and are delighted to bring Sydneysiders, as well as visitors from interstate and across the globe such a world-class hotel,” said Alan Watts, chief operating officer IHG Australasia, Middle East & Africa.

“InterContinental Sydney Double Bay offers something unlike any other Sydney hotel – its understated style fuses with the utmost in luxury and sophistication, and its location makes it the ideal retreat.”

Located in the suburb of Double Bay, 5km from the city centre, InterContinental Sydney Double Bay is designed in a European style and offers 140 rooms and suites.

It will now offer a range of luxury guest facilities, including three restaurants, a gin bar, a 24-hour gym and a brand new rooftop infinity-edged swimming pool. The hotel’s original ballroom has been restored, as is complemented by six other meeting spaces.

InterContinental Sydney Double Bay becomes the fifth InterContinental property in Australia.
