The Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) has launched a new application (app) for Windows
phone and Windows 8 devices.
The app will facilitate the users with a new channel of booking e-tickets in addition to the existing portal. Launched in collaboration with Microsoft, the app offers anytime, anywhere access to IRCTC services.
Using this app, users can plan their trip, making railway reservations, check PNR status and perform all the tasks available on the IRCTC website. The app will be available throughout the day except 0800 – 1200 hours and 2330 – 0030 hours as per the existing railway guidelines. The application also offers visual maps of train routes, Windows Phone live tiles (lighting up as train tickets) and access to saved traveller profiles from multiple devices.
The IRCTC will also upgrade its booking system with which it will allow 7,200 tickets bookings per minute.
