Japan to open tallest Ferris wheel

Japan’s tallest Ferris wheel will open in Osaka this summer, the Japan Times reports.
Located at Expo 70 Commemorative Park, the site of the 1970 World Expo, the new Redhorse Osaka Wheel will be 123 metres high and will include 72 passenger cabins with transparent floors. There will also be two VIP cabins fitted with luxury seats.
It will take 18 minutes to complete one full rotation of the wheel, but the ticket prices have not yet been revealed.
When it opens, the new Osaka attraction will become the fifth highest Ferris wheel in the world, behind the High Roller in Las Vegas (168 metres), the Singapore Flyer (167m), Star of Nanchang in China (160m) and the London Eye (135m). It will also exceed the 119m-high Diamond & Flower Ferris Wheel in Tokyo, which is currently the tallest in Japan.
Osaka’s 113m-high Tempozan Ferris Wheel was previously the world’s tallest Ferris wheel between 1997 and 1999. And plans were recently unveiled to build a new Ferris wheel in Phuket that would be higher than the Las Vegas High Roller, although the exact measurements have not been confirmed.
Osaka’s Expo 70 Commemorative Park opened in November 2015 and features a shopping mall, cinemas, aquarium, zoo and museum.
