ANA’s new low-cost carrier, Vanilla Air, has taken delivery of its first aircraft – an Airbus A320.
The new Tokyo-based airline, which replaces AirAsia Japan, welcomed the 180-seat aircraft this week and will use it to launch its first commercial services on 20 December 2013. Initially the aircraft will operate on flights from Tokyo and Okinawa and Taipei, before expanding to Sapporo and Seoul.
“We are delighted to take delivery of our brand new Airbus A320,” Vanilla Air’s president, Tomonori Ishii, said. “Our aim is to be customer focussed and to offer seamless and convenient services beyond expectations. Thanks to its cost efficiency and high reliability, the A320, is the ideal aircraft to fulfil our demands.”
The new aircraft comes equipped with the wingtip extensions known as ‘Sharklets’, which are designed to improve fuel efficiency by 4%.
Vanilla Air plans to offer low-cost domestic and regional flights from Tokyo Narita Airport using a fleet of all-economy class A320s.
It will operate alongside ANA’s Osaka-based LCC, Peach, and compete directly with Tokyo-based Jetstar Japan.
