Jetstar links Perth with Hainan
Jetstar has launched a new service connecting Perth with Haikou, the city in China’s island province of Hainan.
The low-cost carrier has been operating flights between Singapore and Haikou since 2009, but has now extended the service to the Australian city, with a short stop in Singapore. Jetstar said it will now work with Hainan’s provincial government to market the new service.
“Working with partners to create new connections and encouraging new travel demand through low fares is key to Jetstar’s strategy to growing in Asia”, said Paul Daff, acting CEO of Jetstar. “China’s appetite for international air travel keeps rising as millions more Chinese consumers move into the middle class and have more disposable income.”
Hainan province’s Deputy Secretary General, Luo Shixiang added that he expected more Australians to travel to the island province.
“The new route would allow Australian holiday makers convenient access to Hainan, which is of China’s premier leisure destinations,” Luo said. “Haikou, already one of China’s most popular tourism destinations, is now easily accessible to West Australians.”
Flights will operate four times a week.
