Khiri Travel has continued to expand its off-the-beaten-track adventures in Myanmar with the launch of a new itinerary that includes trekking, boat trips and four-wheel drive vehicles.
The new seven-day journey starts in the ancient city of Bagan and takes guests over the Chin Mountains to another ancient kingdom, Mrauk U.
The itinerary includes four days of trekking (about 20km per day) and transport along rivers and mountain roads, plus “basic” accommodation and local food.
“Last season, Khiri was the first to organise treks from Bagan to Mrauk U,” said Edwin Briels, general manager of Khiri Travel Myanmar. “These were fantastic experiences through beautiful scenery and remote villages where many Chin women still have traditionally tattooed faces. The journey ends with a wonderful one-and-a-half day boat trip to Mrauk U. It’s a different world.”
Along the way, Khiri’s guests will be able to swim in the “seven steps waterfall” near Matupi, eat traditional mohinga noodles in local markets, ascend the 3,053-metre Mount Victoria, explore traditional Chin villages, sail over rapids on the Lay Mro River, and sleep in local homes or guesthouses.
There are three guaranteed departures: 30 October, 27 November and 1 January 2017, and group sizes for each trip will be capped at a maximum of seven people.
