Kuala Lumpur’s Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) will close on 9 May 2014, following the launch of the new KLIA 2.
Bernama reported Malaysia’s deputy transport minister, Abdul Aziz Kaprawi, as saying this week that operations at the old low-cost hub will cease a week after the opening of KLIA 2.
Current operators will transfer all their flights to the new terminal from 2 May, starting with Cebu Pacific, Malindo Air and Tigerair. The terminal’s main carrier, AirAsia, will gradually transition its flights to KLIA 2.
The LCCT opened in 2005 as a temporary solution to Malaysia’s rising airport traffic, and to provide a home to the rapidly expanding AirAsia. It was expanded 2008, and will now be replaced by KLIA 2 – a brand new permanent facility located next to the main KLIA.
