Korean Air will launch a new service allowing travellers to visit the world’s deepest lake – Russia’s Lake Baikal.
The airline has confirmed that it will resume direct flights between Seoul’s Incheon International Airport and Irkutsk, one of the largest cities in Siberia and the gateway for Lake Baikal.
Commencing 19 May, Korean Air will operate two week flights on the Incheon-Irkutsk route, using a Boeing 737-900 aircraft seating 159 passengers in two classes. Flights will depart Seoul every Wednesday and Saturday, returning from the Russian city every Thursday and Sunday.
Located near the border of Russia and Mongolia, Irkutsk is a popular tourism destination and the jump-off point for tours to Lake Baikal – the oldest and deepest freshwater lake in the world.
A UNESCO World Heritage list, the lake is home to more than 1,700 species of plants and animals, approximately two thirds of which can be found nowhere else on Earth.
