Korean Air has launched flights to London’s Gatwick airport.
Services took off today (Sunday 29 April 2012), and will now operate three times a week to London’s second largest hub from Seoul’s Incheon airport. These flights will complement Korean’s existing daily flights to London Heathrow.
To mark the launch, Korean Air hosted an event at London’s British Museum, hosted by James Park, Korean Air’s regional manager for the UK, Ireland & South Africa, and attended by Korea’s Ambassador to the UK, HE Kyu Ho Choo. The event also marked Korean’s five-year sponsorship of The British Museum’s multimedia visitor guides.
“We are pleased to announce our UK route frequency increase with the introduction of London’s Gatwick airport. In addition to increasing the choice for our business travellers, we also look forward to welcoming leisure passengers looking to travel to Asia and beyond. This expansion reflects our ongoing commitment to providing convenient flight times and access to South Korea, as well as onward connections to Southeast Asia and Australasia. We look forward to welcoming our first customers through Gatwick this year and building a long-term relationship with the airport,” said Jeong Soo Park, general manager for Korean Air’s London office.
The new flights will depart Seoul at 1855 every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, arriving into Gatwick at 2255. The return service departs Gatwick on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 1030, arriving back into Seoul at 0525 the next day. All services will be operated using a Boeing 777 with 248 seats – eight in first class, 28 in business class and 212 in economy.
The launch of the new Gatwick route follows the recent commencement of Korean Air’s new flights to St Petersburg, which took off on 24 April.
