Starwood has continued the expansion of its Le Meridien brand in Southeast Asia with the opening of a new property in Malaysia.
The new-build Le Meridien Putrajaya becomes the upscale brand’s third property in Malaysia after Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur and Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu.
It also marks the brand’s second regional opening in recent months following the launch of Le Meridien Singapore Sentosa in June 2016.
“Malaysia continues to be a bright spot for our growth and development,” said Charlie Dang, Starwood’s regional vice president for Southeast Asia. “With the country’s growing influx of visitors, the opening of Le Méridien Putrajaya is set to be an inspired alternative to a traditional urban hotel stay.”
Located in Malaysia’s purpose-built administrative centre, Le Méridien Putrajaya offers 353 rooms and suites, plus a swimming pool and children’s pool, a kids’ club, two restaurants serving international and Chinese cuisine, and 15 function rooms including a vast ballroom that covers almost 2,500m².
Starwood now operates 13 hotels in Malaysia, having also launched new St Regis properties in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi earlier this year. And the company is planning to add at least nine more hotels across the country in the coming years, under its Aloft, Element, Four Points, Sheraton, W and Westin brands.
