The new Loama Resort Maldives has launched its new spa.

Developed by Barry Warrington of IS Wellness, the Loama Spa is set on land and sea, with treatment rooms extending out over the water via a wooden jetty.

To take advantage of the area’s natural beauty, the spa faces southwest to capture the sunsets, while the private over-water spa pavilions include glass floors overlooking the lagoon.

Treatments combine Maldivian, Swedish and Thai massage and acupressure techniques.

“Loama Spa is, to the best of my knowledge, the first modern Maldivian spa concept that has a claim to authenticity and a cultural focus,” Warrington said.

“We began the project with exhaustive research on the history of this seafaring nation, the various influences, trade routes, traditional herbal cures and various treatments dating back to antiquity.

“From that research, we were able to create a unique product range under the Loama Spa brand. And the experiences are delivered by highly-trained Maldivians,” he added.

The 496m² spa becomes the latest wellness offering at Loama, following a fitness centre, yoga and meditation sessions and an outdoor swimming pool.
