“Tourismis the lifeblood of our economy,” LA Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa, was quotedsaying in an Associated Press report. “We can’t afford to let the benefits ofthe industry stop flowing to the heart of the city.”

Thereport said the campaign would feature advertisements spotlighting unique sitesin the city, its major attractions and images of celebrities including TomHanks and Rita Wilson, basketball star Kobe Bryant and soccer star DavidBeckham.

Tourismis the second largest industry in Los Angeles, supporting more than a quarter of a millionjobs, the report said. Last year, tourism brought in US$14.2 billion and 26million visitors, according to the mayor’s office.

The campaign willfocus on both domestic and international markets.
