Lufthansa has launched Airbus A380 flights to Houston.

The inaugural flight LH440 departed Frankfurt at 1010 on 1 August 2012, and arrived at the Texas city’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport at 1350. Following this first flight, the German carrier will operate daily A380 services on the route, boosting capacity by approximately 53%. The service marks the first time any airline has flown the A380 to Houston.

“We are extremely excited to introduce our flagship A380 aircraft as the very first in the Houston market,” said Juergen Siebenrock, Lufthansa’s Vice President for the Americas. “I applaud the airport’s management team for their determination to become A380-ready. It demonstrates our shared commitment to serving the global travel needs of the area’s active business community and discerning leisure traveler, while also embracing the environmental advancements of the A380.”

Lufthansa’s A380 is configured with 526 seats, including eight of the airline’s new 2.1-metre-long first class flat-bed seats, as well as 98 seats in business class and 420 in economy.
