The airline –agent issue has once again created uproar in the travel fraternity.
In a recent move, Lufthansa German Airlines has upset travel agents by levying an additional charge of US$18 for tickets booked through its reservation system, as reported by Economic Times.
According to the airline, effective September all agents will be levied this charge for not booking through its website. This decision has not gone down well with the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI).
According to TAAI’s acting president Sunil Kumar, “Lufthansa must immediately withdraw this announcement and hold a dialogue with the agency associations.”
Members of the association will be meeting to discuss future steps as well as called upon the airline for to resolve the issue amicably.
In a press statement, TAAI mentioned: “It is shocking that a leading airline that has been well promoted by the agency fraternity for several decades now, is resorting to unfair practices of taxing agencies for using a GDS to make a reservation to sell Lufthansa. This is an extremely agency-unfriendly announcement. The response from our members is extremely adverse.”
