Lufthansa has started taking bookings for its new premium economy seats.
The new product will be rolled out on the airline’s Boeing 747-8 aircraft from 10 December 2014, initially on routes from Frankfurt to Buenos Aires, Chicago, Hong Kong, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Seoul, Beijing and Washington DC.
Then from late January 2015, Lufthansa will start equipping its Airbus A340-600 aircraft with the premium economy products, on routes from Munich for Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo. Finally from late April, the German airline’s A380s will offer the new cabin on routes from Frankfurt to Johannesburg, New York, Miami, Houston, San Francisco, Shanghai and Singapore.
“We have had an incredible response for our premium economy class since its launch event, particularly from passengers who we are trying to reach with this new offer,” said Jens Bischof, Lufthansa board member for sales, product & marketing. “The premium economy travel experience will now be even more within reach – up to 50% more personal space at attractive prices.”
Depending on the aircraft type, the new premium economy seats are up to 3cm wider than economy class, while the seat pitch has been extended to 97.5cm. Other features include bottle holders, electrical sockets and more storage space. Passengers will also be allowed two check in two items of luggage weighing up to 23kg each.
