Macau embraces French flair for its latest mega-resort

It already allows guests to take gondola rides along an indoor Venetian canal, and soon, in its latest journey into European kitsch, Las Vegas Sands will offer visitors to Macau the chance to stroll through the streets of Paris.
Details of the company’s latest Macanese mega-resort, The Parisian Macao, were unveiled this week ahead of its launch in late 2016. Billed as “the crowning jewel of [Las Vegas Sands chairman] Sheldon G. Adelson’s vision for the Cotai Strip”, the new French-themed integrated resort will feature more than 2,900 hotel rooms, more than a third of which will overlook a replica of the Eiffel Tower.
“The original tower in Paris has inspired generations of writers, artists, romantics and lovers to follow their dreams; visitors to Macau will get the same inspirational sense from The Parisian Macao’s Eiffel Tower,” the company claimed.
The new Eiffel Tower will be half the size of the Paris original, and will feature observation decks and a restaurant offering views towards mainland China.
Other facilities at the complex will include a large casino with 450 table games and 2,500 slot machines, a 1,200-seat theatre, spa and fitness facilities, an outdoor pool and water park, and a large shopping mall featuring more than 150 outlets, specialising in fashion and lifestyle brands, which Las Vegas Sands says will be “reminiscent of Paris’ famed Champs Elysees”.
There will also be a series of outdoor gardens, fountains, hedge mazes, ponds, arcades and bistros, plus an “eclectic mix of street artists, mimes, and buskers”.
And of course the new resort will cater for the MICE market, with more than 5,200m² of function space comprising seven meeting rooms and the 3,400m² Parisian Ballroom.
“The unique setting and architecture of The Parisian Macao is sure to inspire everyone who visits the resort and it’s destined to be the ideal backdrop for photographers and selfies,” the company stated, adding that the resort would be a perfect setting for weddings.
The Parisian Macao will take its place on the Cotai Strip, Macau’s new gaming and entertainment hub, alongside Las Vegas Sands’ existing mega-resorts, The Venetian Macao and Sands Cotai Central. In total, these three integrated resorts will offer approximately 12,000 hotel rooms.
