Skymark Airlines’ first Airbus A380 has made its maiden flight.
Emblazoned with the Japanese carrier’s yellow star logo on its tailfin, the double-decker aircraft took to the skies above France this week, following the completion of airframe assembly and system tests at the Airbus factory in Toulouse.
The A380, which will become the first ever delivered to a Japanese airline, will now fly to Hamburg for the next stage of development, including cabin installation and full painting.
Based at Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport, Skymark is Japan’s third largest airline after JAL and ANA. It has ordered six A380s, which it plans to operate with a just 394 seats – the lowest of any superjumbo operating in the world today.
Skymark’s first A380 will be delivered later this year and will operate long-haul routes from Tokyo’s Narita Airport.
