Seven Malaysian airlines have joined forces to form the Association of Malaysian Air Carriers (AMAC).
The alliance will include Malaysia Airlines and its two subsidiaries, MASwings and Firefly, plus AirAsia and AirAsia X, Malindo Air and Berjaya Air.
According to Malaysia Airlines, the aim of the association is to “provide a common platform to discuss issues affecting the industry”.
“[Having] all the main operators represented the association will ensure one voice for the airline industry whilst representing common industry interests amongst institutions such as the Ministry of Transport, Department of Civil Aviation and the Malaysian Aviation Commission,” the national carrier said in a statement.
“By joining forces, the association will also promote healthier growth for the industry and create highly qualified jobs, both directly and indirectly, for the sector and the broader aviation eco-system.”
Key topics on the table for AMAC include air traffic control, safety and security standards, and airport fees and taxation.
