Malaysia’s AirAsia X will operate Thai AirAsia X‘s new Bangkok–Sapporo route next month, under a deal with Japan’s aviation authorities.
Japan is one the countries that is not permitting the launch of new flights by Thai carriers, due to safety concerns. This ruling had threatened jeopardise Thai AirAsia X’s plans for the Sapporo route, but under a new agreement with the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB), Malaysia’s AirAsia X has been given permission to operate the route from 1-31 May 2015.
“Thai AirAsia X has been working closely with both relevant Thai government agencies and JCAB to resolve the situation as soon as possible,” the Bangkok-based airline said in a statement.
“For the time being, JCAB has allowed AirAsia X Malaysia to operate rescue flights between Bangkok and Sapporo… to accommodate affected Thai AirAsia X passengers.”
The route will now be operated under AirAsia X’s D7 code using an Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
Thai AirAsia X’s other routes, connecting Bangkok with Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul, remain unaffected.
