Maldivian has announced the launch of Chennai services from 15 November 2012. The airline will connect the island capital of Male from Chennai three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The airline will also launch Mumbai-Male on 16 November using an Airbus A320 with 14 business class, 24 premium economy and 114 economy class seats. The national carrier will also commence services to Dhaka, Bangladesh in
November.
“We will be connecting Chennai, Dhaka and Mumbai from November onwards. We are looking at flying to New Delhi and Kolkata later this year. We have landing rights in four metros,” said Abdul Haris, Managing Director at Island Aviation Services Ltd.
Currently, Maldivian connects Male to Thiruvananthapuram. Maldives received 31,000 Indian arrivals in 2011, an increase of 20% compared to 2010 with 25,756 arrivals.
