Mandala Airlines has announced plans to launch a new service connecting Hong Kong and Jakarta.

Commencing on 25 July 2013, the Indonesian low-cost carrier will initially operate the route four times weekly, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, before increasing to daily flights from 1 September 2013. Mandala Airlines is the Indonesian subsidiary of Singapore-based low-cost carrier, Tiger Airways.

“We are excited that Tiger Airways is the first low-cost carrier flying direct from Hong Kong to Jakarta,” said Tiger’s commercial director, Kaneswaran Avili. “Our new service aims to offer best value in travel to both business travellers and Indonesian workers in Hong Kong. The competitive pricing, frequent schedule and value-added services on demand makes Tiger Airways’ flight offerings unique and certainly more cost-effective.”

Through Mandala, Tiger has been rapidly expanding its network in Indonesia this year, and now operates domestic routes to Bali, Medan, Surabaya, Padang, Pekanbaru and Yogyakarta.

The new Hong Kong route will be operated under Mandala’s ‘RI’ flight code, departing Jakarta’s Soekharno-Hatta International Airport at 2010, and arriving at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) at 0150 the following morning. The return flight leaves HKIA at 0230, getting back into Jakarta at 0630. All flights will be operated using an all-economy class Airbus A320 aircraft.
