The Mandarin Oriental Bangkok has completed a renovation of its historic Authors’ and Garden Wings.
The project at the famous riverside hotel included a significant room reconfiguration resulting in the creation of new suites, including a new Grand Royal Suite in the Authors’ Wing and 12 suites with balconies in the Garden Wing.
The new six-bedroom, 600m² Grand Royal Suite becomes the hotel’s top room type and occupies the entire first floor of the Authors’ Wing – the original Oriental Hotel built in 1876. The suite has private elevator access and incorporates the one-bedroom, 315m² Royal Suite and the adjoining two-bedroom, 165m² Ambassador Suite with two bedrooms, along with three further guest rooms.
There is also a lounge, a second living room, a study, kitchen, bar and a dining room for 12 guests. The suite is completed by a Victorian-style glass conservatory that offers dining for six guests and lounge seating, while the original – and now restored – open balcony offers views of the tropical gardens and Chao Praya River.
The new 80m² Garden Suites in the Garden Wing all feature floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the river and gardens, plus a lounge, dining room, pantry, powder room and balcony. The bedrooms feature large marble bathrooms with separate bathtubs, walk-in showers and walk-in closets.
Also in the Garden Wing, four new spa studios have been created.
The hotel’s French restaurant, Le Normandie, has also been revamped with new chandeliers and a wine cellar, while the famous Authors’ Lounge has been restored to its original 19th Century design and extended out to the hotel’s riverside terrace and gardens via four salons.
One of Asia’s most famous hotels, Mandarin Oriental Bangkok celebrates its 140th anniversary in 2016.
