Mandarin Oriental will open its first hotel in Shanghai later this year, with the launch of a new luxury property on the banks of the Huangpu River.

Set to open in the second quarter of 2013 in the city’s Lujiazui financial district, the Mandarin Oriental Pudong Shanghai will feature 362 hotel rooms and 210 serviced apartments, in a new 25-hectare mixed-use development also comprising office towers, retail outlets, entertainment facilities and landscaped gardens.

The hotel’s 318 rooms and 44 suites start from 50m² and offer views of the river and Shanghai’s Bund. F&B options at the hotel will include a contemporary French restaurant, Fifty 8° Grill, a Chinese restaurant, Yong Yi Ting, and the all-day dining restaurant, Zest, along with a bar, lobby lounge and Mandarin Cake Shop.

Leisure facilities include a spa with 13 treatment rooms, swimming pool and fitness centre, while conference and banqueting facilities include two ballrooms, holding a total of 750 people, plus eight meeting rooms, and a 5,000m² outdoor riverside event space.

The Mandarin Oriental Pudong Shanghai will become the company’s third hotel in China, following existing properties in Guangzhou and Sanya. It also operates five hotels in Hong Kong and Macau.
