Marriott International plans to launch more brands into India.
The group is looking at introducing the Autograph Collection, currently only present at Bali in the Asia-Pacific region.
Rajeev Menon, area vice-president for South Asia at Marriott International said the APAC region’s first Fairfield Inn and Suites was due for launch in Bengaluru in October, to be followed by the Ritz Carlton in November in the same city, while the first Edition brand hotel will come up in Gurgaon in two years time.
“Any year, we sign up to 10-20 deals for new hotels. Marriott plans to have 50 hotels operational in India by 2017 and a pipeline of 50 more, including some brownfield properties. With 22 hotels in business by this year-end, it will have 5,500 rooms in service with another 8,500 under construction,” Menon was quoted by The Hindu Business Line.
According to Menon, the Indian hotel industry saw 5% drop in average room rates in the first half of 2013, while Marriott has seen close to 5% growth. Average occupancy across its hotels in India is marginally over 70%.
