Ahead of the delivery of its first Airbus A380 aircraft later this year, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is offering its cabin crew and other front-line staff special training to cater for passengers on the superjumbo.

Around 550 cabin crew have been selected to undergo training in various aspects of in-flight service between now and the end of the year. The first batch of 20 cabin crew has already undergone the two-week onboard aircraft familiarisation and safety training. MAS said these programmes would be backed up with sessions on how to handle the “functional and emotional needs” of A380 passengers.

“Our cabin crew training modules were based on an in-depth study of the passenger journey experience and feedback from our regular and loyal customers and the type of service they would like to experience on our brand new A380. With this set of training, our cabin crew will be able to bring Malaysian Hospitality to the next higher level with premium services by fulfilling the passengers’ emotional needs,” said the airline’s Head of Customer Experience, Salleh Ahmad Tabrani.

MAS will equip each A380 with 21 crew members, serving a maximum capacity of 494 passengers – eight in first class, 66 in business class and 420 in economy.

The airline has ordered six A380s, the first of which will make its debut on the KL-London route on 1 July.
