MAS could lease A380s
Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has said it may enter a sales and leaseback agreement for its six Airbus A380s.
The national carrier, which announced its fifth straight quarterly loss yesterday, said the leasing of its A380s forms one of the “main pillars” of its new funding plan. MAS is currently in discussions with MoF Inc – the Malaysian Ministry of Finance – to lease six new Airbus A380s and two new Airbus A330s.
“Whilst we have received approval-in-principle to enter into discussions with MoF Inc, the proposed leasing arrangement is still pending the relevant government and regulatory approvals,” the airline said in a statement.
MAS is expected to launch its first A380 on the KL-London route on 1 July 2012.
