Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has re-introduced direct flights between Kota Kinabalu and Tokyo.

The service resumed on Monday 28 October 2013 and will now operate three times a week. Services will depart the Sabah state capital every Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 0725, arriving into Tokyo’s Narita International Airport at 1400.

The return flights will leave the Japanese capital at 1455 the same day, getting back into Kota Kinabalu at 2005. All flights will be operated using a Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 16 seats in business class and 144 in economy.

MAS previously suspend several routes from Kota Kinabalu as part of its restructuring strategy.

“The suspension was part of our network consolidation involving single-aisle aircraft operations,” explained MAS group CEO, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya. “As promised, we reviewed the decision and with market demand, have decided to reinstate this route. We are confident that this route will serve us well and at the same time be a valuable addition for our customers.”

The new service will complement MAS’ existing Kuala Lumpur-Tokyo Narita service
