Melbourne Airport has revealed its new-look Terminal 4 to travellers flying on Tigerair.
The enhancements made to the end of the terminal’s Pier F have almost doubled the available space to 2,000m² – an area equivalent to two Olympic-size swimming pools. Other upgrades include more seating, additional toilet facilities, lift access and improved wayfinding.
“At Melbourne Airport we are continuing to exceed the industry’s growth expectations and are on target for annual passenger numbers to reach 60 million by 2033. In the past 12 months alone, more than 10 million passengers travelled through Terminal 4, making it a very busy domestic hub,” said Melbourne Airport’s chief of aviation, Simon Gandy.
“In the coming months we look forward to unveiling a number of other significant infrastructure upgrades including an eighth baggage carousel in our international terminal and our new T2 luxury precinct.”
The new T4 will initially cater to Tigerair Australia’s passengers, and the low-cost carrier’s head of communications, Vanessa Regan, called the terminal upgrade a “huge step change” which “supports future planned growth of Tigerair”.
“Terminal 4 offers a significantly enhanced and seamless customer experience at our busiest port. Our customers are telling us they love these new state-of-the-art facilities here at Terminal 4 and that’s important given Tigerair is an airline that evolves based on consumer demand,” Ms Regan said.
Meanwhile, Tigerair has also celebrated carrying its 24 millionth passenger. Freya Appleford was presented with a AU$500 (US$375) travel voucher at Melbourne Airport T4 by Vanessa Regan.
