Melia Hotels International has signed agreements for its first hotels in Thailand.
Under a new partnership with TCC Land Asset World, the Spanish hotel group will initially open three properties, under three separate brands, in Koh Samui, Bangkok and an as-yet-unnamed resort destination. The company said that it also plans to enter other Thai destinations including Phuket and Pattaya in future.
The deal was signed during Melia CEO Gabriel Escarrer’s recent Asian tour.
“We have always opted for a growth strategy accompanied by major local partners, and entering a market with extraordinary potential such as Thailand together with TCC Land Asset World meets all of our expectations,” said Escarrer.
“In addition, we have a very similar business philosophy, and our brands and service culture are perfectly adapted to the demanding standards of the famous Thai hospitality, meaning that our partnership begins with the most auspicious omens.”
In the first three years of the agreement the two companies will develop a Sol Beach House resort in Samui (to be rebranded from the existing Imperial Boat House Koh Samui Hotel), an ME by Meliá lifestyle hotel in Bangkok, and a luxury all-inclusive Paradisus resort in “one of the top holiday destinations in Thailand”.
Melia and TCC already work together on the Melia Hanoi Hotel in Vietnam.
“This agreement will deepen and strengthen a long-term relationship with Meliá Hotels International based on mutual respect and trust, and a shared concept of hospitality as a means of achieving growth and prosperity for our communities,” said Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi of TCC Group. “We are convinced that the Meliá commitment to quality and innovation through its Paradisus, Sol Beach House and ME by Meliá hotel brands will help place the exceptional range of hotels in Thailand… adapting to new segments of urban and resort hotel guests.”
Meliá’s entry into Thailand forms part of the company’s Asia Pacific expansion strategy. It currently operates 10 hotels in the region, covering China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam, and recently signed its first ever property in Myanmar.
