Spain’s Melia Hotels International has announced plans to launch its first ever hotel in Myanmar.
Scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2015, the Melia Yangon is a new-build hotel located next to Inya Lake. Once completed, it will feature 429 rooms and suites, a spa, restaurants and meeting space.
The hotel will form part of a mixed-use complex being developed by HAGL Myanmar, which will also feature office buildings, apartments and retail space.
“Meliá Yangon represents a new milestone for our committed growth in Asia Pacific and we are eager to bring our most international brand to Myanmar,” said Melia’s vice president for Asia Pacific, Bernardo Cabot.
“This outstanding hotel will boost our brand awareness within the region, and I’m sure it will be the opening door to get into other destinations within the country.”
The signing of the Myanmar hotel comes at a time when Melia is expanding in Asia Pacific. The company now has 20 hotels either operating or under development in the region, and recently unveiled plans to brings its new Sol House brand to Asia, with two properties in Bali and one in Phu Quoc, Vietnam.
