Three airlines based in the Middle East are hoping to continue making a mark on European air traffic by deploying new aircraft on routes to key European cities.
Royal Jordanian’s first Boeing 787 Dreamliner has been deployed on the London Heathrow-Amman route and landed at the London airport for the first time today.
The aircraft is one of five that will be used to replace its current A340s and A330s and comes fit with up to 17-inch touchscreen in-flight entertainment screens. It has 24 business class seats and 246 in economy, with RJ the second Middle East-based carrier to operate a Dreamliner along with Qatar Airways.
Qatar Airways’ latest Dreamliner has been deployed on its flights between Doha and Vienna.
The new aircraft deployment nearly doubles capacity on the route, which operates four times a week.
“The first landing of the Qatar Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner today marks a highlight in the development of Vienna Airport,” said Mag. Julian Jäger, from the airport’s owners Flughafen Wien AG.
Meanwhile Emirates has expanded its Airbus A380 network after adding the aircraft on its flights to Frankfurt.
The airline is using the aircraft to bring more capacity to European hubs and now operates A380s on 30 of its routes from Dubai.
Thierry Antinori, Emirates EVP and chief commercial officer said: “Deploying larger capacity aircraft like the A380 is fundamental to helping us meet growing passenger demand between this dynamic economic region and the evolving economies of Asia, Africa and the Middle East, through efficient connections via our Dubai hub. The positive effects of more inbound tourism from the Middle East, Gulf and Asia-Pacific regions into Frankfurt will also be demonstrated with the arrival of the A380, based on our experience when we introduced the aircraft to Munich.”
