Minor Hotel Group has announced plans to launch its first Avani-branded hotel in Thailand.
The company has signed an agreement for the management of the Amari Atrium Hotel in Bangkok, and will officially take over the hotel’s operations on 1 October 2013. Following a major renovation, the property will be relaunched as an Avani next year.
“We are very excited to announce our first Avani in Thailand,” said Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of the Minor Hotel Group. “Taking over the management of this well established city centre hotel will be a great launch platform for our new Avani brand here in Bangkok.”
Minor launched its Avani Hotels & Resorts in 2011 as an upscale alternative to its well-established Anantara Hotels & Resorts brand. According to the company, Avani properties will offer “relaxed comfort and contemporary style in city and resort destinations”.
Currently the company operates two Avani hotels, both in Sri Lanka, but plans to expand the brand across Asia, India the Indian Ocean and in the Middle East. Two additional resorts will join the portfolio later this year in Vietnam and Malaysia.
Located on the Thai capital’s New Petchburi Road, the 568-room, 23-storey Amari Atrium Hotel is a well-known hotel in Bangkok and features a 12-storey atrium lobby. Facilities currently include a swimming pool and sun deck, a fitness centre and conference and banqueting space, but the property will now undergo a major renovation before rebranded as an Avani in 2014.
Following the removal of the Atrium hotel from its portfolio, Onyx Hospitality Group will still operate five Amari properties in Bangkok, including the Amari Boulevard and Amari Watergate hotels.
