Minor to train next generation of hoteliers

Thailand’s Minor Hotel Group has launched a major new initiative designed to train the next generation of hoteliers.
The new Explorer programme will initially be rolled out in the Maldives, offering vocational hotel training and accredited international certification for young people wanting to embark on a career in the hospitality industry.
Minor said the 12-month training programme will be available to both internal hotel candidates and external school leavers, and combines training with actual paid work experience. Seventy percent of the programme will be practical training, 20% social learning and 10% online classroom training.
Each trainee will be provided with a tablet allowing them access to the programme’s online learning platform, and Minor has also invested in a series of professional coaches.
Five of Minor’s properties in the Maldives – three Anantara resorts and two Per Aquum properties – have initially been selected to participate in the Explorer programme, and the company said it plans to roll out the concept to other regions in future.
“We are thrilled to be launching our industry-leading Explorer Programme in the Maldives,” said Minor’s CEO, Dillip Rajakarier.
“A vast amount of research and work has gone into the development of this programme and we are confident it will offer our current and future associates an opportunity to develop and enhance their skills in real time, whilst also giving them an accredited certification enabling them to progress with their careers.
“This is our first regional launch of this programme and we are looking forward to rolling Explorer out in other regions where we operate in the coming months.”
On completion of the course, participants will be awarded with a hospitality Certificate III qualification.
