MSC Cruises has entered into partnership with Samsung that will see its cruise ships equipped with new “smart” technology.
The agreement will come into force with the arrival of MSC’s two new cruise ships, MSC Meraviglia and MSC Seaside, which are scheduled to enter service in June and December 2017 respectively.
These new vessels will be fitted with Samsung’s latest technology, ranging from in-room solutions to public displays and corporate technology.
“At MSC Cruises we have consistently shown our commitment to both cutting edge innovation and working with best-in-class partners that can support and further enhance the onboard experiences we offer our guests,” said MSC’s CEO, Gianni Onorato.
“As well as being revolutionary in concept, design and marine architecture, the Meraviglia and Seaside generation ships mark a leap forward in terms of cruise ship technology. Equipped throughout with Samsung’s latest-technology products, our guests will be able to experience the best of the next generation in smart ships.”
New digital solutions and devices to be offered on the new ships include in-cabin HD TVs, public screens and displays, augmented reality mirrors, smartphones and tablets for the crew members, virtual reality and 360° digital experiences, new technology for onboard medical centres and printers for MSC’s business needs.
Samsung Italia’s president, Carlo Barlocco, said his company plans to “bring innovation to the whole cruise industry”.
“The partnership with MSC Cruises is an example of how our advanced solutions are able to enhance the guest experience: not only monitors and tablets to access information and infotainment contents on board but also advanced medical equipment to support first aid in case of emergencies,” he commented.
The MSC partnership is the latest example of Samsung’s expansion into the travel and hospitality sectors. The company also recently penned agreements with AccorHotels and Ascott to roll out “smart” technology across their portfolios of hotels and serviced apartments.
