MSC Cruises will stop sailing from the UK for a year to focus on promoting the ‘Mediterranean way of life’ onboard its ships.
The cruise line will not sail from the UK in 2015 and instead increase its fly/cruise capacity to take more UK passengers to the Med.
It comes after the cruise line announced a two-year ‘Renaissance Programme’ to update its four Lirica-class ships, which includes MSC Opera being out of action for the first half of 2015. The ship is currently sailing from Southampton.
“As market leader for Mediterranean cruises it is important that we work to reinforce this position by increasing our fly-cruise capacity, along with improving our ships to include more balcony cabins, more on board entertainment and additional technological advancements,” said Giles Hawke, who was recently announced as executive director for the UK, Ireland and Australia at MSC.
“We are considering various charter options and working with our air partners to come up with the best approach to keep up with the current customer demand for fly-cruises direct to the Mediterranean. We will also be introducing tools supporting travel agents in order to make the fly-cruise booking process easier than ever,” he added.
