The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has organised a Strawberry Festival in five
cities.
The festival will be held from 1-9 March 2014 in five cities of Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad and Nagpur. The festival is organised in association with Strawberry Growers Association and Mapro.
“Maharashtra is much famous for its mangoes which are being exported to various states in India and across the globe. However, strawberry is highly perishable fruit and needs faster consumption. Hence, there is potential of tourists visiting Maharashtra for strawberries. Realising the same, we are promoting Maharashtra as the Strawberry Capital of India,” said Kishori Gadre, General Manager of MTDC.
“The fruit needs to be promoted aggressively in the state first. If the people of Maharashtra realise the opportunity, it will be easier to attract tourists in the state,” Gadre added.
Maharashtra accounts to 80% of the strawberry production in India.
