Voyages of Discovery’s new ship is to have its final refit in Portland Port, UK this winter.
MV Voyager, which is due to join the Voyages of Discovery fleet in December, will have a month long refurbishment from 1 November performed by Northern Ireland contractor Miyan. Its maiden voyage starts on 4 December after the final stage of the multi-milllion pound investment.
The ship, formerly the Alexander von Humboldt, was purchased by All Leisure Group in 2009 and has already received major technical upgrades plus the addition of more balcony cabins. Voyager will become the second ship in the Voyages of Discovery fleet, joining the 650 guest Discovery, which will undergo an extensive refurbishment prior to returning to service in March 2013.
The new additions to the Voyager will see a new piano bar ‘Scott’s Lounge ‘; a new lounge providing panoramic view from the front of the ship; a new all-weather awning to the Veranda Restaurant to allow guests to dine al fresco; new digital media players installed in all cabins; new artwork; upgrade to soft furnishing in public spaces; new refurbishment of the library and the installation of new dual purpose Bridge Club that doubles up as a venue for lectures.
On completion the mv Voyager will have 270 cabins, 87% of those are outside and 30 with balconies. The ship will provide open seating dining in two restaurants, plus a pre-bookable specialty restaurant, the Explorer Club.
Alan Murray, managing director of Voyages of Discovery was clearly happy that the contract to complete the mv Voyager was awarded to a British company, and thus supports the UK economy
