Namibia Tourism Board has revealed findings from a research on the UK outbound market which shows 33% of UK visitors to the country booked their visit via a travel agent and 33% via a tour operator.

The report titled ‘Long Haul Traveller Perceptions of Namibia’ was carried out by Acorn Tourism Development Consultants in April and polled 500 people who had taken a long haul holiday in the last two years.

When planning their holiday to Namibia, 28% of participants used the internet, 23% used guide books and 13% used holiday brochures. Surprisingly, only 8% used holiday forums such as Trip Advisor for research into the destination.

Last year the country welcomed 35,000 visitors from the UK, which is 3.4% of the total number of international leisure visitors.

Viewing wildlife and enjoying the scenery were the top booking drivers for those who had visited. The average length of stay was 13 nights, with Windhoek, Swakopmund and Etosha National Park proving to be the most popular destinations to visit. Top activities to take part were ranked as wildlife viewing (27%), touring/ multi-centres (13%), hiking/trekking (13%), fishing (13%) and adventure sports (10%).
