A national initiative was launched to boost recruitment and quality standards and to enhance skills within the tourism industry through training and workforce development. The Industry Partnership for Tourism Jobs corresponds to a 2006 agreement signed between the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Ministry of Labour, Vocational Training Corporation (VTC), E-TVET Fund, the USAID Jordan Tourism Development Project (Siyaha) and operators and owners of hotels and restaurants, according to a Siyaha statement, as reported by Jordan News.
“Tourism is a significant contributor to Jordan’s economy and the sector is expected to experience further growth in the future. We must prepare for this growth and be ready to accommodate the demand in human resources that the tourism sector will generate in the immediate and longer terms,” said Labour Minister Atef Odeibat.
The 2011-2015 National Tourism Strategy for Jordan identified that the sector requires a total of 25,000 additional professional employees over a four-year period, the statement said, adding that this equates to 6,300 new entrants to the tourism sector annually.
