National parks reopen as shutdown lifted

National parks and attractions in the USA have reopened after the government shutdown was lifted.
Tourists are now able to visit sites such as Yellowstone National Park, Alcatraz and the Lincoln Memorial after the government agreed on a budget and reopened state-run services across the country.
The parks had been closed since 1 October, although some had managed to open with funding from state governments.
However another shutdown could take place early next year if further finances are not secured, with the parties to attempt coming to a longer-term deal by 13 December.
The US Travel Association estimates the US economy was missing out on US$152 million a day from its parks not being open.
