The Asia Pacific region has seen the opening of 149 new hotels this year.

According to STR Global’s latest Asia Pacific Construction Pipeline report, the openings in the first five months of 2012 have added 29,667 rooms to the region’s inventory, with an average hotel size of just over 199 rooms.

A further 359 hotels comprising 91,281 rooms are expected to open in the remaining seven months of the year, following by 526 new hotels with 116,632 rooms in 2013.

The total Asia Pacific hotel development pipeline currently stands at 1,613 hotels with 372,451 rooms.
