The construction of the new Amari Johor Bahru reached a milestone this week, with the “topping out” of the 19-storey property.
Tee Siew Kiong, Johor’s chairman of tourism, trade & consumer affairs, was present to pour the final concrete on the hotel’s top floor.
Developed by UMLand and managed by Onyx Hospitality Group, the new Amari Johor Bahru will form part of the new Suasana Iskandar Malaysia commercial development in southern Malaysia. Once complete, the hotel will feature 242 rooms, a restaurant, spa and meeting venues. Construction is expected to be completed before the end of 2016.
“We are honoured to be in collaboration with UMLand on the development of our first Amari property in Malaysia. As a Thai-based regional hospitality company, having a presence in one of our closest neighbouring countries is a significant milestone for Onyx,” said Peter Henley, president & CEO of Onyx.
Onyx and UMLand are also developing two more properties in Johor: Ozo Iskandar Medini and Shama Medini. This will make Johor Bahru the first city ever to offer all three Onyx brands.
