The Plain of Jars

The mysterious Plain of Jars in Laos is now more accessible than ever, after an airline launched two new routes to the plateau on which the ancient site is located.

The Lao news agency, KPL, reports that domestic carrier Lao Skyway has started flying from Vientiane and Luang Prabang to Xieng Khouang Airport, which is the gateway to the Xieng Khouang Plateau. Both routes will be operated three times a week.

Lao Airlines already flies from Vientiane to Xieng Khouang, but the Luang Prabang route will be an entirely new service.

The Plain of Jars consists of thousands of stone “jars” strewn across the landscape, some of which are believed to date back more than 2,500 years. The purpose of these jars remains a mystery.
