India will soon have another new airline, after the country’s aviation authorities awarded an operating licence to Turbo Megha Airways.
Operating under the Trujet brand, Turbo Megha Airways will be based at Hyderabad‘s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and will serve regional routes using a fleet of two ATR 72-500 turboprop aircraft. It plans to add a third aircraft in the near future.

India’s Civil Aviation Minister, Ashok Gajapathi Raju, confirmed the decision.
“The airline will be based out of Hyderabad and operate flights to Tirupati and Aurangabad with a fleet of 70-seater ATR aircraft,” the Economic Times quoted the minister as saying in New Delhi.
The company’s website actually states that the aircraft will offer 72 seats.
Trujet will become the fourth new airline to launch in India in the last 13 months. In June 2014 AirAsia India commenced operations, while Singapore Airlines’ Indian subsidiary Vistara launched in January this year. These have since been joined by Air Pegasus, a regional carrier based in Bengaluru.
