Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced plans to open a new hotel in Osaka.

Located in the Umekita district of Japan’s second largest city, the InterContinental Osaka will form part of the Grand Front Osaka – a major new development that connects the Osaka and Umeda train stations. Set to open by Q2 2013, the development will also include commercial outlets, office buildings, entertainment facilities and apartments.

“Osaka is developing rapidly. There is now better connectivity between east and west Japan, and with the strengthening of Kansai International Airport as an aviation hub, the InterContinental Osaka will stand out in what is one of IHG’s most important markets,” said Clarence Tan, CEO of IHG ANA Hotels Group.

The InterContinental Osaka will span seven floors and feature 215 guest rooms, along with 57 serviced residences. Facilities will include four F&B outlets, a wedding chapel, spa, fitness centre and an indoor pool.

The hotel will become the seventh InterContinental property in Japan.
